SOLON, Ohio (December 16, 2022) Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA) has announced the winners of the 2022 Innovation Awards, naming the recently expanded Amphi™ line of biosurfactants as top ingredients. The new high-performance and 100% biobased Amphi CH and Amphi CL glycolipids—developed by Locus Performance Ingredients (Locus PI)—were honored as a top innovation to help transition the industry to a more environmentally and socially sustainable economy.
“Locus takes great care to design high-performance ingredients that are safer and greener for institutional and industrial cleaning. This new line of surfactants contains 100-percent biobased content, has lower usage rates, and a near-zero carbon footprint, enabling more sustainable formulations,” said Steve Caldeira, President & CEO of HCPA. “We congratulate the Locus team for their 2022 Innovation Award in the Ingredients category.”
Locus PI’s Amphi CL and Amphi CH supply the industry with non-GMO and palm oil free ingredients. They are REACH-registered and USDA certified as containing 100% biobased and renewable raw materials. The winning biosurfactants, which are part of the glycolipid class, enable the creation of sustainable commercial cleaning products that supply high performance and a clean, green profile.
“Increasingly, consumers are calling for more sustainable products, and companies like Locus have invested significant time and resources providing them,” Caldeira said.
The HCPA awards highlight companies that blend innovation with sustainability in five product categories:
- Carbon Footprint
- Circular Economy
- End-User Communication
A panel of industry experts ranked the nominees in each innovation category, with winners recognized at a Dec. 4 ceremony during XPAND2022, the HCPA annual meeting.
“Locus Performance Ingredients’ mission is to provide safe, high-performance options to the global industrial surfactants industry, enabling the development of products that are safer for the consumer and safer for the environment,” said Greg Smith, VP Americas for Locus Performance Ingredients. “With the recent launch of Amphi CL and Amphi CH, we now have a full line of Amphi biosurfactants that offers formulators customizable solutions to meet efficacy and sustainability targets for their products. We are honored to be recognized by the Household and Commercial Products Association as a leading ingredient innovator two years running.”
In 2021, Locus PI’s original Amphi™ M sophorolipid won for Ingredient Innovation. The company’s novel biosurfactant production process with a near-zero carbon footprint won for top Technology Innovation.
